Off The Chart: 5 January 1980

Those of you who don’t like ’80s music are in for a treat on this week’s Off The Chart as we’ve gone all the way back to the first week of 1980, when the last chart of the 1970s was still in place. But never fear, we still manage to find two hours of forgotten and half remembered hits, as well as a look at the day’s goings-on, the week’s new albums, a quick look at the Swiss chart and back home for the top five in full.

  • Which two acts were inhabiting the lower reaches of the top 40 with the same song?
  • Which song was a number 4 hit for three different acts?
  • And who had a 1980 hit with a 1979 release of a 1974 reworking of a 1972 single?

Tune in and find out!

Listen to Off The Chart on Noisebox Radio at 9pm every Tuesday! There’s a podcast too!

For those of you who enjoy the nonsense we talk but don’t have time to listen to the music, we’ve put the talky bits together with some exclusive extras to make a podcast! This week we discuss the best titles for Greatest Hits albums, how to get in touch with Swap Shop and the continued chart presence of deceased ’70s stars in the ’80s.

We also have a Spotify playlist for our #ICEOTWF feature, including all (well, most) of the international hits we’ve played since the feature began in March 2017. There are all sorts of oddities in here, all of which were hits somewhere in the world but not in the UK!
