Chart Watch

Well, you lot don’t hang about, do you? Mere hours after Prince’s demise, two of his compilation albums are already back in the top twenty: Ultimate Prince from 2006 re-enters at 10 while 2001’s The Very Best of Prince returns at number 18. Meanwhile Purple Rain is back at number 55 and the title track re-enters the singles chart at 65. Doubtless lots more of Prince’s back catalogue will be sold over the next few days so expect more to return to the chart next week.

New Releases

Mark Knopfler teams up with percussionist Evelyn Glennie for the soundtrack to the film Altamira, while at the other end of the alternative scale Wire release a new album Nocturnal Koreans based around tracks that didn’t fit the ambience of their previous album Wire. Suggs’s 1995 solo début The Lone Ranger is reissued with bonus B-sides and a painful number of remixes, and The Alarm release Majority, an album of newly reworked songs from the era around the band’s 1985 album Strength.
