Some '80s Xmas singles

Vote for your favourite ’80s Christmas hit!

Yes, it’s that time of year again – November. But the Christmas albums are starting to make their way into the shops, so it’s time to start planning our annual Off The Chart Christmas special. Like last year we’re asking you to vote for your favourite ’80s Christmas hits – tick off as many as you like, we’ll count up the votes and present the top twenty on a special Off The Chart over the festive period.

We’ve painstakingly gone through the Official Charts website and extracted every Christmas single that entered the UK singles chart for the first time between 1980 and 1989. That rules out things like Slade’s Merry Xmas Everybody1 and Wizzard’s I Wish It Could Be Christmas Everyday, because although they were hits at various points throughout the ’80s, they were reissues of ’70s hits; but David Bowie and Bing Crosby’s Peace On Earth / Little Drummer Boy makes the cut although it was recorded in 1977, because it wasn’t a hit single until 1982. So if any of your favourites are missing, that’s because they didn’t qualify. Sorry about that, but we have to draw the line somewhere…

The poll closes at midnight on 1 December 2018, so vote early and vote often!2

UPDATE The poll is now CLOSED! Thank you to everyone who voted. Look out for the results on the Off The Chart Xmas Special on Noisebox Radio and Mixcloud over the festive period!

  1. If you ask us nicely we might consider giving special dispensation to the 1985 12″ remix, but you’d have to ask us very nicely indeed.
  2. Not literally, because you can only vote once, but you can pick as many songs as you like before clicking the Vote button, so choose wisely.
