If you’ve been puzzled by the recent appearance of posters bearing just the word “SUPER” in a brightly coloured circle, wonder no longer: Super is the title of the new Pet Shop Boys album, due for release on April 1st.
Produced by Stuart Price, who also worked on the duo’s previous album Electric, Super includes twelve new Tennant/Lowe compositions and will be available on CD, vinyl and download. Tracks include forthcoming single The Pop Kids, which Chris Lowe describes as “very early ’90s sounding” and Inner Sanctum which was used as a teaser track in the run up to the album’s official launch.
Inner Sanctum is also the title of a four night residency at London’s Royal Opera House, from the 20th to 23rd of July. “We thought it would be exciting, when you have a new album coming out, to have a big event and to play four nights at the ROH, a venue a lot of people wonβt have been to, the grandest theatre in London with amazing facilities,” Neil Tennant explains. “There is actually a creative tension between an institution like the ROH and electronic dance music and I think that we’re hoping that will prove to be a rather fruitful tension because it’s exciting to take electronic music into a venue that doesn’t normally have it.” Tickets are available from the Royal Opera House website.
