Duran Duran with Eagles of Death Metal

Duran Duran back Eagles of Death Metal chart campaign

Duran Duran have thrown their weight behind an online campaign to send a cover version of Save a Prayer by the Eagles of Death Metal to number 1 in the chart.

The campaign started last weekend after the appalling terrorist attack on the Eagles of Death Metal’s concert in Paris in which 89 people lost their lives. The band recorded Save a Prayer for their latest album Zipper Down released last month and performed the song on TFI Friday with Duran Duran two weeks before the attacks.

In response to the campaign, Simon Le Bon tweeted: “Duran Duran will donate all proceeds due to us, from this version. Considering options that are useful, peaceful & uniting.”

The campaign aims to send the track to number 1 this weekend as a show of “solidarity against terrorism and support for peace.” As of Tuesday 17th November the track had climbed to number 44 in the UK chart and a higher position looks likely as the campaign gathers momentum.

Full details of how to download the track and join the campaign can be found on the “Eagles Of Death Metal For No.1” Facebook page and Twitter feed.
