While the overemphasis on streaming data continues to render the singles chart virtually meaningless, ’80s acts are still finding renewed success on the albums listing. Heading the charge this week are the Pixies whose new album Head Carrier enters at number 7. Deacon Blue‘s Believers is new at 13, their third top twenty hit album in the past five years and their highest position since 1994’s Best Of Our Town reached number 1. Also enjoying a renaissance are The Mission whose Another Fall From Grace charts at 38 making it their biggest hit album since 1992. The Beat ft Ranking Roger dΓ©but at 49 with Bounce and Yello‘s Toy is new at 84, their first hit album since 1991.
This week Bon Jovi continue their quest to release their entire new album in instalments with another new single Born Again Tomorrow. Barry Gibb releases In The Now, his first album since the last Bee Gees set This Is Where I Came In in 2001, while Saxon release their tenth live album Let Me Feel Your Power. The Colour Field‘s dΓ©but Virgins and Philistines gets a deluxe reissue with added B-sides, Soul II Soul get the 5 Classic Albums treatment and Ministry of Sound brings us Eighties Blockbusters: the Most Iconic Soundtracks from a Decade of Memorable Movies, a 3CD set including tracks from Beverly Hills Cop, Top Gun, The Goonies, Ghostbusters and Ferris Bueller’s Day Off among many others.
