Mike + The Mechanics - Let Me Fly

Chart Watch and New Releases: 7 April 2017

A fairly quiet week on the album chart, although the deluxe editions of Fleetwood Mac’s Tango in the Night propel it back into the top thirty at 23 and Depeche Modes Spirit is still hanging on to a top thirty place at 26 – tonight’s Depeche Mode Night on BBC Four should see it climb again next week. Further down the Jesus & Mary Chain’s Damage and Joy plummets from 16 to 92 while Wire’s Silver/Lead enters at 96. The physical singles chart continues to give the impression that you could have a hit by selling ten copies of your own record at a car boot sale, but David Bowies No Plan EP returns to number 1, knocking Blondies Long Time down to 3.

This week’s new releases include Let Me Fly, a new album by Mike + The Mechanics with Andrew Roachford taking on vocal duties. Deep Purple release inFinite, a new album strongly rumoured to be their last, while Brian May and Kerry Ellis bring out a second album together, Golden Days. Teena Marie is the subject of a 2CD set Ooo La La La: The Epic Anthology covering 1983-1991. The new Erasure single Love You To The Sky is available to download now, as a standard version and an Adam Turner remix, as is another new Paul Weller single Long Long Road.
