There was a lot of hoohah a few months back about Dame Vera Lynn scoring a hit album at the age of 100, but today Deborah Harry joins the very select list of female artists to achieve a top five album past the age of 70 – the new Blondie album Pollinator enters at number 4, the band’s highest chart position since 1999 reunion album No Exit reached #3. Meanwhile Hawkwind enter at 34 with their twenty-fourth hit album Into the Woods and Nick Cave & the Bad Seeds dΓ©but at #8 with their new best-of set Lovely Creatures, three places above the peak position of their previous The Best Of which, you’ll be horrified to discover, was released a full nineteen years ago.
This week’s new releases include the new Paul Weller album A Kind Revolution in a variety of formats including a 3CD box set with instrumentals and remixes. New Kids on the Block release a new five track EP Thankful while Hall & Oates’ Rock ‘n Soul Part 1 and Gary Moore’s After Hours get vinyl reissues. Midnight Oil have a new rarities box set The Over Flow Tank comprising 4 CDs and 8 DVDs; two other box sets collecting the band’s albums on vinyl or CD follow in two weeks’ time.
