Chart Watch: 30 December 2016

It’s another of those weird charts that nobody could have predicted this time last week, as the untimely passing of George Michael brings his back catalogue back into the charts. Wham!’s Last Christmas, of course, was already in the chart but climbs to number 7 this week, its highest position since 1985, while there are re-entries for solo hits Careless Whisper at 44 and Faith at 64. George’s duet with Elton John on Don’t Let The Sun Go Down On Me also returns to the singles chart at number 91.

In the album chart, Michael’s 1998 solo compilation Ladies and Gentlemen: The Best of George Michael returns to the top ten at number 8, ahead of the Wham! compilation The Final at 40 and the joint best of Twenty Five at 47. There are also re-entries for solo albums Faith at number 62, Symphonica at 73 and Older at 84.
